Ms. Galvin's Math Class completed a unit on Volume and Surface area of geometric figures. Students had to make an animal using a prism, cylinder, cone, and sphere. The students then had to measure the dimensions and calculate the volume and surface area of each component and calculate the total. Students displayed their calculations on a poster and presented their animal. The students did an AMAZING JOB!!!

Congrats to our Students of the Month for October and to our Teacher/Staff of the month as well! Briggs is so proud of your hard work!!!

Fall Carnival November 9th: 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. Carnival in the upper gym, BINGO in the cafeteria.

Be sure to visit some of our Gifted and Talented students that are set up in the Early Childhood, Elementary and Middle School Buildings. They have free hygiene items to give away. The soaps smells great!!! These students carry a strong leadership trait and possess an exceptional ability to relate to and motivate others. They have the ability to convince people to act or not act in specific ways. Leaders are often self-confident and comfortable with their peers. Characteristics may include influencing peers, being sought out by others to accomplish a task, addressing a need, holding high expectations for self and others, demonstrating or delegating responsibility, and internalizing concepts of right and wrong.

Please view the handbook here. https://5il.co/2bdyv Cell Phone Policy Student cell phones, air pods, bluetooth headphones, or smart watches will need to be powered off during school hours. We understand that it is difficult to feel out of touch with your student, but parents can call the office to relay messages. If students need to talk to their parents they can come to the office or use the school phones in the classroom. Some of the difficulties we face with hundreds of cell phones being used by students include the possibility of: Students taking pictures/videos of other students without permission and posting to social media. Students continuously checking their phones during class. Students watching movies/video clips, or listening to music during class. Students participating in group texts/chats during the school day. Students bullying other students through group texts/chats. Students who violate this policy will have their device placed in the main office and returned to them at the end of the day. In case of emergency situations students will be allowed to use their phones.

ORES State football semi finals Saturday, Oct. 26th at Sequoyah High School. Briggs will play Maryetta beginning at 2:00 p.m.

Football recap: The Briggs Braves won on Tuesday night at Liberty by beating Grove from Shawnee with a final score of 44-14. Jevan Dick scored three touchdowns on the night to lead Briggs into the semi finals on Saturday at Sequoyah High School versus Maryetta. Jaxon Crow scored on a 10 yard touchdown run and HighEagle Pratt caught a 25 yard touchdown pass from Layne Morgan as the Braves cruised to a 32-0 halftime lead. Brenden Holden scored on a touchdown run and Jaxson Osburn caught two 2-point conversions. Great defense by Aiden Walker as he had two interceptions. Great play by the Rose Twins, Urijah Solis and Logan Dreadfulwater.

Briggs Student Wellness Action Team (S.W.A.T.) focuses on healthy eating, physical activity, avoiding tobacco and ways to fight against temptations that may be harmful to the health of others. This week S.W.A.T. is showcasing a yummy snack recipe, a suggested sleep schedule and healthy snacks to try. Check back next week for more healthy living and snack ideas! Parents, Influenza and/or COVID-19 Vaccination Consent and Screening forms are being sent home with your child. The vaccination clinic is scheduled for November 14th from 10:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. in the upper gym lobby. Tribal membership is not required and vaccinations are open to the Briggs Community. If you want your child to receive one or both vaccinations, please fill out the forms and return them to school. If we do not receive a completed form, your child WILL NOT receive a vaccination. Robotics members delivered snack baskets as a way of saying thank you to the classes that helped sell the most shirts during the Robotics T-Shirt Fundraiser! Thank you Ms. Ashlock's 6th grade class, Ms. Capps' Kindergarten class and Ms. Pickens' 4th grade class! Robotics appreciates everyone that helped make this fundraiser successful!

1st round of ORES State Football begins Tuesday, October 22nd. Briggs will play against Grove at Liberty. 2024 JOM INDIAN EDUCATION ELECTION One of the most important components of the JOM program is parent involvement. This October, parents of JOM eligible children will have an opportunity to get involved in the development of the JOM program at their school. Elections for JOM Indian Education Committee members will be held October 22, 2024, at Briggs School beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Administration Building. To serve on the JOM IEC, a person must be the parent or guardian of a JOM verified child. School board members or spouses and school employees or spouses cannot serve on the committee. Parents, Permission slips were previously sent home for your child to attend the Cherokee Nation Safety Fair on Friday, October 11th. If you have not signed and returned this form, your child will not be able to attend the field trip. Extra forms are available in the front office or you can print one from the link provided. This year, our school has partnered with Amira Learning in support of our readers. Amira is a digital reading tool that leverages artificial intelligence (AI) to assess students’ reading mastery and coach them through new reading skills. Students can also use Amira’s “Practice” mode to strengthen their reading skills at home! On Amira, they will read out loud, receive interventions and support, and talk about the story they’ve read to build their comprehension skills. Amira can be accessed by clicking on the icon on the school website homepage. Students will need a login in order to begin using Amira at home, please contact your child's teacher if you have any questions.

5th/6th academic practice Wednesday, October 9th from 4:00-5:00. Book Fair today through Wednesday. 4-H meeting Tuesday, October 8th at 3:30 in Mrs. Childs' room. Every Friday in Oct. will be "pink out" day in honor of breast cancer awareness month. Picture money is due by Thursday, Oct. 10th. Congratulations to the kindergarten classes for winning the September attendance award with a 96.3% attendance rate!!! They will receive a 45 minute recess.
